Largest Bear In State History In Price County

A first time bear hunter could make state history with a more than 700 pound prize he found Southeastern Price county.

The hunter, Mark Listle says he 's still waiting for confirmation from the DNR whether or not his bear has set a state record.

"That's my first black bear I ever shot."

Listle has been deer hunting since he was 12 years old, but on Friday night after a tip from a friend, he made a discovery of a life time on a farm in the Town of Spirit in Southeastern Price County.

"I was pretty excited cause I knew from the pictures [my friend showed me] how big it was and to it person to see it, it was awesome when you see a 727 pound live weight bear that's big."

The bear 's live weight was certified at a weighing station in Prentice.

After that Listle brought it to the Safari Room in Medford to have it mounted.

Brenda DuVall a Wildlife Artist there says the bear's hide measured 80 inches in length from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail.

"This bear was so big it had to be brought in with a bobcat, literally a forklift and it was covering the 4 by 8 sheet of plywood."

Listle says he wants everyone to see his prize and hopefully it will generate more interest in the sport.

"After it's mounted it will be on display at my convenience store in Tripoli for everyone to see it."

If you'd like to see the mounted bear, stop by the Tri Mart BP and Propane on Hwy 8 in Tripoli.

The Safari Room anticipates having his full mount completed in about 10 to 12 months.
